State Secretary Mäder attends Halifax International Security Forum
Bern, 21.11.2025 — Markus Mäder, State Secretary for Security Policy, will represent the DDPS at the Halifax International Security Forum in Canada from 21 to 23 November.
The Halifax International Security Forum is an annual summit held in Canada attended by high-level representatives from governments, armed forces, academia, civil society and industry from over 70 countries.
This year’s main theme, ‘Democracy’, highlights the role of democratic institutions, processes and values in international security. Among other things, it focuses on the relevance of democracy for peace and stability and its potential to overcome current security policy challenges. Furthermore, security policy developments in various regions of the world and challenges in the areas of cyber defence, disinformation and technological competition will be discussed.
While at the conference, State Secretary Markus Mäder will hold discussions with experts and conduct a series of bilateral talks with international counterparts, including Andrius Kubilius, European Commissioner for Defence and Space. These meetings are set to address the security situation in Europe, strengthening democratic resilience and further developing bilateral security cooperation.
