Global RECAP Project: Advancing policy action for healthy diets and NCD prevention

The RECAP project supports governments, academia and civil society in developing evidence-based policies to improve food environments and address malnutrition in all its forms.

Led by IDLO and WHO in collaboration with IDRC, and supported by Switzerland, RECAP demonstrates how regulatory and policy measures can contribute to healthier diets and the prevention of diet-related noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). The project strengthens countries' capacity to design and implement policies that promote healthy diets and physical activity, while improving the use of data, evidence and accountability mechanisms to inform action.

Building on work in ten countries across Africa and Asia, RECAP brings together governments, civil society, researchers and development partners to address the growing burden of malnutrition and NCDs through multisectoral approaches. The programme supports measures such as food labelling, restrictions on the marketing of unhealthy foods to children, and other regulatory and fiscal policies that help create healthier food environments.

RECAP covers the interface between food systems, nutrition and health, and highlights the importance of evidence-informed policies for improving diet quality and reducing malnutrition in all its forms.
