The Romanian health system is still in a transitional phase. Critical economic and technological choices need to be made, whereas the management of treatments and hospitals requires new skills and higher levels of competence.
The Ascona project undertakes to transfer knowledge and know-how in public health and health management, targeting future managers of health institutions.
The main objective of the Ascona project is to train health managers so they are able to fulfill the difficult task of reforming the health system in Romania. The activities of the project are to provide courses in health management in the Ascona Summer University Switzerland and to exchange information between Romanian and Swiss experts, particularly through case studies and on current issues affecting the development of health institutions. Throughout the 10 years of the project, 10 to 12 Romanian health managers were able to attend the Ascona Summer School each year.
This regional project was initiated in 1996 and was finalised in 2006.
