SDC's Priorities in Health
In its overall endeavour to support partner countries to achieve the health related Millennium Development Goals and to strengthen their health systems the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation focuses its bilateral, multilateral and humanitarian health cooperation on four priority areas:
- Right to Health Approach: Access, Quality, Acceptability, Determinants of Health
- Harmonisation and Alignment
- Control of Major Communicable Diseases
- Improving Reproductive Health
These priorities are based on an assessment of the global context, an analysis of the established expertise and comparative advantages of SDC and its potential to have an impact on the health of the poor. The priorities and the rationale for their selection are outlined in detail in the current SDC-Health Policy. The portfolio of SDC country programmes is elaborated on the basis of a local context analysis and the expressed priorities of partners and beneficiaries, using SDC's priorities as a guiding framework.
